What is AWANA?

AWANA has stopped for the summer. It will return in September.

AWANA is an International Bible ministry for children. AWANA clubs exist throughout Scotland, the UK and in over 70 countries worldwide. AWANA stands for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” taken from 2 Timothy 2:15. The Galashiels Baptist Church AWANA club meets on a Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 and is aimed at boys and girls of Primary school age.

The evening is split into four main parts:

Welcome Time: The Children are welcomed and sorted into their teams (Green, Yellow, Blue or Red). This time includes fun songs and any new child is introduced and welcomed.

Handbook Time: Children memorise bible verses as they work through their handbooks, gaining points for their teams with each completed section.

Games Time: Children complete in high (and low) energy games. These are all designed to be fun and all-inclusive. They focus on good sportsmanship and support for all competing.

Council Time: Children listen to a short lesson containing Biblical truths and are able to ask questions as well as answer them. . At the end of each meeting, the achievements of both individuals and teams are warmly recognised by all.

Children gain points for their teams throughout the evening by memorising bible verses, competing in the team games, answering questions during Council time, bringing friends, good sportsmanship, good behaviour, cheering loudly and doing their best.

For the past 7 years, during the month of February, the Galashiels AWANA Club has taken part in the AWANA Games where the AWANA Clubs around Scotland come together to compete against each other in a variety of fun and exciting games. At the last games we came third.
